Crankshaft Pulley Removal

  1. Remove drive belt.
  2. Lock crankshaft using crankshaft pulley wrench tool No. 499977000 or equivalent, then remove pulley retaining bolt and pulley.
Timing Cover Installation

  1. Remove lefthand, right-hand and front outer belt covers.
Timing Mark Alignment

  1. Ensure timing belt rotation arrows and alignment marks are visible prior to belt removal. If original marks are faded, new alignment marks can be made as follows:
Marking Timing Belt

  1. Align camshaft and crankshaft sprockets with notches in belt cover and cylinder block.
  2. Mark timing belt in relation to sprockets.
Belt Tensioner And Idler

  1. Loosen tensioner adjuster mounting bolts.
  2. Remove both idler pulleys, timing belt, belt tensioner, spacer and tensioner adjuster.
Camshaft Pulley Removal

  1. Lock camshaft sprocket using camshaft sprocket wrench tool No. 499207100 or equivalent, then remove sprocket retaining bolt and sprocket.
Camshaft Pulley And Inner Timing Cover Installation

  1. Remove inner lefthand and righthand belt covers.
  2. Remove tensioner bracket.
  3. Install inner righthand and lefthand belt covers. Tighten bolts to specification.
  4. Install tensioner bracket and tighten bolts to specifications.
  5. Install crankshaft sprocket.
  6. Install righthand, then the lefthand camshaft sprockets. Lock sprocket using tool No. 499207100 or equivalent and torque bolt to specifications. Lefthand sprocket can be identified by a projection used to monitor cam-angle sensor.
Tensioner Installation

  1. Vertically push tensioner adjuster rod into adjuster body using a suitable press, then completely insert stopper pin .059 inch diameter into tensioner adjuster to hold rod in place. Do not allow press pressure to exceed 2205 lbs.
Tensioner Installation

  1. Install tensioner adjuster. Ensure adjuster is positioned completely to the right and tighten retaining bolts.
Idler And Tensioner Installation

  1. Install belt tensioner and tighten bolts to specifications.
  2. Install belt idler and tighten bolts to specifications.
  3. Using sprocket wrench, turn sprockets to position alignment marks at the top.
Timing Belt And Pulley Removal

  1. Install timing belt. Position timing belt with rotation arrows facing in correct direction and sprocket and belt alignment marks properly aligned.
  2. Install both idler pulleys. Tighten bolts to specifications.
Tensioner Adjustment

  1. Loosen tensioner adjuster retaining bolts, position adjuster completely to the left and torque retaining bolts to specifications.
Timing Mark Alignment

Tensioner Adjustment

  1. Ensure timing marks are properly aligned, then remove stopper pin from tension adjuster.
Timing Cover Installation

  1. Install front, left-hand and right-hand belt covers.
  2. Install crankshaft pulley. Lock crankshaft using tool No. 499977000 or equivalent and torque pulley retaining bolt to specifications.
